Changing Over

Unfortunately for the whole world (thats you)…my art lends itself to the more unattainable aspects of the web. My music can be heard, but  only live, my food can be experienced, thats live also, and paintings  just hide from my camera flash it seems. Recently (I promised myself this would never happen) Ive been neglecting my guitar (sob..sob..) and ergo have been neglecting my personality… those who have successfully become their art know the pain of being separated. I think its what they call a “rut” – random utter terribleness.
I failed my last pizza, I haven’t played guitar as well, I think im becoming slightly more ignorant, every second I warrant myself dissected from life. My hands just flop at the sight my piano, drumming is now just a slur of loud sharp remarks. I think its hilarious, but thats because im looking at the situation through past eyes. Bummer.
Some music! Whats the only medicine for life sickness! Good vibes! Whats that great thing that does stuff to other things! Music!  Its in the air but you cant see it!  Du-du-du-dum du-dum music! (music theme song)
This is a good song for those who can appreciate “length”, yes ladies, this song has some large hands about so enjoy. (but is very serious – I suggest clearing the dirty joke from your mind and letting the music lead some of your thoughts)
Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean – Explosions in the Sky
Thanks to the GJL (Giant Julian Library) I have on my computer, this band has suddenly become apparent. It is Post- Rock. this is an extremely atmospheric song, it sounds like narration. If you can’t stand it, force yourself to at least go to 7:10! Its worth it. For my musical taste this is a very new-age song, for everyone else… there is a comment box. ENJOY

Song of the Day

Posted in 1 on January 3, 2010 by modernsoup

Today’s post was going to be dedicated to a friend of mine, Alex. Unfortunately I do not have a photo of him. So until then, the song will remain mystery, and you can goggle at this photo I found after scouring the web.Try to imagine Alex as a combination of these three lads, especially the one on the right. This is a photo of a band called “Shadrack Chameleon” which has absolutely nothing to do with anything.  So Alex requested today’s song of the day be ________ by ________ , and it will be revealed when I have his photo! Until then:

Genghis Khan by Iron Maiden

Usually they have instruments (and shirts) over beer. This is the only pic I could find that didn’t look like a school portrait . Anyway from left to right we have what looks like the guitarist Dave Murray, then its the stoic Bruce Dickinson, to Steve Harris, Adrian Smith, and the other guitar, Janick Gers.
Genghis Khan is an ode to the cruel ,Mongol leader…Genghis Khan. The song is heavy and fast, sticking to the distinct Maiden sound. Its instrumental, all around very short and sweet. For me, the song gets good around the middle.

Enjoy your Sabbath, and your Maiden! \,,/

Love or Confusion – Jimi Hendrix Experience

Jimi in the middle, The two other guys...
On the left there is Mitch Mitchell and on the right is Noel Redding.
For now we can focus on them, Noel plays the bass. Astonishing, if you
have ever "actually" listened to Hendrix and know the experience, you would
know how integral Noel and his bass are. Noel is usually heard following
Hendrix's free-forming jazzy lines, its a really distinct sound for the
experience, listen up. Mitch is almost as innovative as his left handed
counterpart when it comes to drumming, just listen up! We all know about
Jimi, relentlessly pursuing his sound by torturing his musical
tools and inventing the modern use of distortion by bludgening
his pricey Fender equipment. Jimi's sound was transormative
as he twisted classic blues to his own passionate
voice, this is why he has become legend.
"Love or Confusion" is off of their first
album, my favorite album of theirs,

the lyrics are incredible as they usually are, the song retains a simple
 Jimi pattern.
Here to help you groove into the new year.
~or not~

This version is off of a live album, this song is elusive on the web!

I am off to California in about ten minutes! Ciao

SOUND CHASER – YES

Yes…yes…a thousand times yes!

If you look hard enough, the tree might start to spell "yes", but one slip
from the image and it is just random tree. Yes; if you've ever heard
"Roundabout" then you've heard one of the best keyboard solos ever
performed in studio, but you have most definetley have absorbed
the "core" of Yes's"sound". Yes's sound is incredibly distinct,
each song branches from the same:High Pitched Warble,
Thunderous Keyboard, and jazz powered musicianship that will shatter
the strongest ears Tree. Fans of Classic 80s Prog, or Jazz Fusion will weep
at "Sound Chaser", especially those fond
of awesome keyboardness.
Enjoy!
~Or not~

Realize that there is more than one song here, every two minutes or so the direction completely overhauls.

(meaning: if you get bored with one part, then wait for 30 seconds or so, and you will be listening to a new song. This is the point of prog!)

here is the studio version (I know its long, enjoy what you can)

and…nevermind the images

Here is a much shorter live version if you didn’t want to go through the whole 9 min. spiel of the first video.

Title that tells…

As things progress, which is a word at fault, to be true a word like con – gress would be used, and not in its normal form. Things keep getting worse, only cling to  the hope that they will be inversely good. Being stranded from art in every way  other than the solice in these black scrawling fiends creates a true sadness. English becomes nothing, I have been speaking Portuguese in place of English for a few weeks now, and it has become my thoughts. It has melded with french C’est verdade, une langue trés strangue est ues pallavras differente qui eu falla agora avec meu coisa diffucultemente.

I can’t wait to return to California! To talk to friends, to make music do very anti – school thingly things

Start my record player with J!!!

Anyway, the point to this post..is..right..here…^

As a romantic, I hate being

Anybody else?

This by now is just improv

What I was thinking before this post was what was important, now during it, who knows??

If you do, comment!

Otherwise we are done here

cheers.

Real Christmas Music!

Posted in 1, Music! on December 23, 2009 by modernsoup

It is Christmas eve’s eve here in wonderfully dry Murphy, Texas. The empty streets are just bustling with dreary gray-ness… FLAT, its so very flat, that after every few houses it gives the illusion that the world just ends, and any green is just unwelcome.  A pleasant drive on the “President George Bush Highway” will show you just how incredibly big something can be. I encourage everyone within a five-foot radius of any tree grant it a hug, you may just want to cry because they just rule. Oh! On the subject of trees, yesterday I went to see Avatar…in 3d…in Imax 3d. Anyway, I guess that movie made me even more bias toward trees. But come on, can you really hate a tree? I challenge someone to.  If you walk by a tree, one of the branches picks all of your pockets and then purposefully self combusts near you, then you can hate it with good reason.

quote of the day (5 seconds ago): “This water tastes of the stalk of a brocolli”

Tangent finished: Christmas music.

I have grown sick of many christmas classics. They can be alright, but after hearing too many variations of one song…aaggh.

So I have comprised a list of feel good christmas music, chances are you will like it as long as you are not especially christian. (which interferes with the whole “Christmas” theme of course)

10. Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy – Devo

9.  Young Americans – David Bowie

8. Tales of Brave Ulysses – Cream

7. God Save the Queen – Sex Pistols

6. White Room – Cream

5. Spiral Architect – Black Sabbath

4. Trust – Megadeth

3. Fairies Wear Boots – Black Sabbath

2. Battle of Evermore – Led Zeppelin (listen through, starts quite slow)

1. Symptom of the Universe – Black Sabbath

All of these songs are very easy listening; at least to me.

Give it a try against traditional holiday tunes, theses are all superb songs.

Listen to the end: especially number 9 and 10

Happy Winter Days!

(feel free to add any music you think is great for winter, or any at all)

(all of these songs have amazing solos btw)

(And! The poll below is one I created, not some ad, so dont worry I guess)

The Difference Between Sickness and Health…

Posted in Blogs!, Music! with tags , on November 13, 2009 by modernsoup

Recently a few things have been going on for me to discover such a tasty piece of information, and I mean extremely recently. The definitive way to determine sickness and health is the ability to headbang. And the legend is as follows…

I’ve been sick for about a WEEK now, and I KNOW  that I cant headbang while I am sick, I’ve tried, its a dead-end. After sitting in bed the entire day, then watching the new 30-rock…

I finally figure out the solution to the lethargy of sickness…CHEFING…to cook something excellent raiding my fridge for some awe-inspiring ingredients to pull me out of the sick. In the end it became spaghetti with shrimp in a garlic sauce while jamming to a medley of great cooking music—specifically—A Day in the Life – The Beatles, Hungry Freaks Daddy – Frank Zappa, Take No Prisoners – Megadeth, just some highlights.

This brought me to what this blog is actually supposed to be about “cooking/music”

Spaghetti was awesome,,, but then my laptop started spouting that classic Megadeth tune which provoked me to test the limits of my sickness… and it totally worked, my head feels fine, and I am am that much less sick…
